What is the difference between Serafe and GT12?

We are often asked why Serafe and GT12 coexist. These are two separate concepts with different objectives.

SERAFE – Household levy for public broadcasters

SERAFE AG has been collecting the household levy for radio and television since 1 January 2019. This levy finances the public radio and television broadcasters in Switzerland and must be paid by all households and businesses.

GT12 – Replay advertising for private broadcasters

The GT12 industry agreement, on the other hand, concerns private TV broadcasters, which finance their programmes mainly through advertising revenue. Due to the increasing popularity of replay TV and the associated skipping of ads, they have lost important revenue. The GT12 measures serve as a substitute.

ℹ Recent development

Since 30 March 2026, SRF and other SRG channels are also part of the GT12 regulation and show replay advertising.

✓ Skip the ads

With the Skip-Ad function, skip replay advertising on all affected channels. Available at my.teleboy.ch/service/tv.
